weekly wrap-up: mumford mayhem

Mumford and Sons has been on my list of bands I must see before I die, and I nearly had a heart attack when I found out they were FINALLY coming back to B.C..  I signed up for the pre-sale and managed to grab tickets right away....yahoo!

The concert took place in a park, and over 25, 000 people showed up.  So yeah, it was kind of nuts.  And when I say kind of....I mean mega nuts.

The day was so lovely, and we sat on the grass and listened to the opening bands....and it was the epitome of a perfect summer afternoon.

And then Mumford and Sons came on, and blew everyone out of the water.

I'm getting chills right now just remembering their harmonies and passion.  Seriously, the were incredible.

Also, we bumped into a p.s.heart reader while entering the venue!  We were so surprised and a bit flustered by this that we acted like complete weirdos, and didn't even ask her name.
If you're reading this, please know that we're sorry, and we really appreciated that you said hello!

The rest of my week consisted of farm work and sore muscles (what's new?), as well as graduation stuff.  We had a grad dinner with family and close friends last night, and I walk the stage tomorrow afternoon.
My only hope is that I don't trip on the stage!

p.p.s. All of these photos were taken on my little point and shoot, since dslrs weren't allowed inside the park!  I had almost forgotten how to use it :P

weekly wrap-up : discovering the arts

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a wonderful new housewarming gift: a Crosley record player! We got so excited that we've been decorating our place while listening to Christmas carols on it =] It's definitely become one of my favourite pieces of "furniture" in our place!
Despite buying a record player, I couldn't help but purchase this CD by Of Monsters and Men...love these guys!
We also had the pleasure of going to watch a dear friend of mine in this deeply moving and challenging play: Mad Forest, which is a play about the Romanian Revolution of 1989. If you ever get a chance, I would definitely recommend that you go and watch it!
Caleb and I also went out on some wonderful dates and had these incredible desserts! Tiramisu, carmelized deep fried bananas with gelato, and a delicious pecan walnut tart...mmm.
I participated in Movember by making these lovely DIY sharpie mugs that can be found here...

I also had fun setting up a little jewelry wall in our place with a DIY earring frame and an adorable key necklace holder that was gifted to me from Kelsey!

& lastly, I've been working hours on a wedding that I shot back in October to finish the photos by this coming week! All in all, it was a week full of the fine arts: soothing music, beautiful acting, delicious foods, jewelry diys, and editing photos.

Hope your week was as lovely as mine!

in love with : olafur arnalds

I'd like to introduce you to one of my musical crushes...the incredibly talented Icelandic composer: Olafur Arnalds.
I could listen to Arnalds' compositions for hours...wait, correction. I DO listen to his compositions for hours! His music is so beautifully unique. Using a classical foundation of chamber music and piano, Arnalds does amazing crossovers into pop by incorporating electronics, creating wonderful cinematic pop pieces. I am seriously in LOVE. The way he meshes in piano, synth, and strings is so gorgeous and every piece turns into an emotional journey.
I love that one of my favourite shows (So You Think You Can Dance) has used his compositions several times throughout their seasons and that he's been the opener for Sigur Rós, another favourite musician of mine. If you love SYTYCD, go check out Jordan & Tadd's dance from season 8 and watch Amelia & Will's dance from this season. They're both beautifully choreographed and showcase the music so well.

I think I'll grab a cup of tea and my latest book and enjoy some Olafur now =]
