outfit post: a floral skirt among the flowers

I love shopping.  I mean I reeeeeally love shopping.  However, my this can be a bit tough on my wallet.  A couple months ago, one of my best friends Ashley, was moving to a smaller place, and decided to get rid of lots of her clothes.  She invited some friends over to go through what she wanted give away, and we ended up having a big clothing swap!  It was so awesome, I ended up with some really cute clothes, and didn't have to pay a penny! I also had a chance to declutter my own closet as well, and get rid of some clothes that no longer fit my style.

This vintage skirt was my favourite find of the night.  It is flowy and comfortable, and I love the length. Here I paired it with a $5 top I found at Garage, and a simple pair of black flats, for the most affordable outfit ever!

outfit post: long island beach days

Beach days are glorious days.

There's so much freedom and I adore how the ocean is both so wild and peaceful...
There's nothing quite like it in this world. Not to mention the sand. All that beautiful, soft, white sand! Is there anything better?

Maybe the prairies.....

Hah! Who am I kidding, as much as I love my city, I would move in a heartbeat if Caleb and I were ever called to live near the ocean. But until then, I'll just be dreaming of Long Island's beautiful beaches and be thankful that there is beauty in every landscape, even in the prairies.

outfit post: spring florals

Spring is officially hereee!

Too bad I live in Edmonton and on official first day of spring, March 20, I woke up to a buttload of snow in my yard, flurries, aaand -10 degrees... Yep. Welcome to the Canadian spring! Well, Alberta's spring anyways. I miss BC.

Thankfully just a couple days before "spring," I went out for a little photosession with my husband to enjoy some sun and warmth!

outfit post: peach and lace

Oh Winter, when will you end?
Again, these snowy photos are from a snowfall a couple months ago, and I thought I should get around to sharing them before it's officially Spring!

This dress is truly more of a Spring/Summer outfit, but I sometimes a girl just can't help herself.  I paired it with a pair of thick, wintery snowflake tights, and boots to help make it look a little more Winter appropriate, and added a chambray shirt for a bit of warmth!

Also, I have a new job that has me working in a 25 degree Celsius work environment most days, which hasn't helped my low tolerance of the cold!  (I'll be sharing more about my new job soon!)

outfit post: pink and red

As you might have guessed from the title of this post...I decided to do a Valentine's Day inspired outfit.  Cheesy?  Yes.  Do I care?  Nope.

The thing is...no matter what you think about Valentine's Day, it always results in sales on chocolates.  And that counts for a huge win in my book.

Anyway, I chose to go with maroon tights, a pink lace shift dress, and a navy blazer to help give the outfit some structure.  I love a good shift dress, but sometimes your shape can get a bit lost in it.  Since it's also Winter here....that's another good reason to add layers!

outfit post: my winter uniform

So...this is what I basically wear every day in winter, as long as it's not raining.  Although it does rain a lot here in the Pacific Northwest, so swap out my red coat for my rain coat, and you have my average outfit for the rest of the time.

I just love that a statement coat, a nice pair of jeans, and a good pair of boots is so so simple, and yet you look nice and put together.  I really like no fuss outfits.

Also, this coat is my favorite.  Totally one of those clothing items that gets compliments from total strangers.  I love it.

outfit post: cat tights

An important step you must complete on your way to becoming a crazy cat lady is purchasing a pair of cat tights.  I can now check that off my to-do list!

I have absolutely no shame, and am so so in love with these.  I first wore them in Edmonton when I was out visiting Clara, and to say she was a bit horrified would be an understatement. Ha!  She's not really a cat person, and I got quite a bit of enjoyment over her revulsion.

(She does like kittens though....so all hope is not lost yet).

Anyway, moving on....This dress is the newest in my quite large collection of lace dresses.  It's mint lace, has a sweetheart neckline, short sleeves, and the length actually hits my knees instead of mid-thigh like every other dress out there.  I can't wait for the weather to warm up so that I can wear it without tights!

I got it on a wicked sale at urban outfitters, so it was dirt cheap.  Man, do I love sales!

outfit post: sherlock inspired

“There are always some lunatics about. It would be a dull world without them.”
― Arthur Conan DoyleThe Red Headed League

Though in this quote Sherlock Holmes is probably referring to those that are criminally loony, I like to think us oddballs that are not quite so nefarious (as perhaps Professor Moriarty is), also make the world a more interesting place!

I am sure if you have been on the internet at all in the last couple of weeks you know that the third season of BBC's Sherlock just aired.  Kelsey and I are definitely Sherlock fans, and we watched the last episode yesterday.  I still feel like my brain is trying to figure out everything that happened over the season!  We both really enjoyed it!

As you may remember, I love doing "subtle costumes", so when I saw this coat, I knew I just had to have it for a subtle Sherlock Holmes!
