outfit post: spring florals

Spring is officially hereee!

Too bad I live in Edmonton and on official first day of spring, March 20, I woke up to a buttload of snow in my yard, flurries, aaand -10 degrees... Yep. Welcome to the Canadian spring! Well, Alberta's spring anyways. I miss BC.

Thankfully just a couple days before "spring," I went out for a little photosession with my husband to enjoy some sun and warmth!

outfit post: bye bye birdie

It's that time of year again.  When the birds start to sing, and the cherry blossom come out in full bloom.
At least it on the coast, sorry Clara!

A friend of mine living in the Okanagan said she was confused by the weather, because in this photo it looks like spring, yet she is still ankle deep in snow.
I told her, well this was after it rained, while it was sunny, and before it snowed that day.

The West Coast can be weird sometimes.

This is one of my favourite spring outfits!  The birds printed onto the lace are absolutely beautiful, and all the colours in it make it easy to match with things!

I can't wait until we have more consistent sunny weather, but right now I will take what I can get!

Also props to Kelsey for all these gorgeous photos!

springtime in Vancouver

Here in Vancouver we get a lot of rain.  And I mean A LOT of rain.  Sometimes we don't see much sunshine during Fall, and sometimes our Winters consist of days (or even weeks) of constant drizzle.

Rainboots are a must, and a good rain jacket is your best friend.  At times it can be depressing, and other times invigorating.  But most of the time it's wet. Very very wet.

And then suddenly it's Spring, and we remember why we love Vancouver.  It still rains a lot, but not as much as before.  The best part of all is when the first tree blossoms!  Hope rides in on soft pink petals, and the city smiles back.

p.p.s. I took all of these photos on my way to and from the library a few blocks from  my apartment!

diy : dried flower deco

Today's DIY comes in the form of one of my favourite ways of decorating - dried flowers. Seriously, when you live in a place like Edmonton, where we STILL have a foot of snow on the ground and no sign of spring flowers, you learn to improvise, and dried flowers are an awesome way to add a vintage, romantic touch without spending tons of money.
Drying flowers is the easiest thing to do - truly, take a bouquet or even just a single flower, flip it upside down, and hang it for a couple days until the flower is completely dried out. To make sure your dried flowers still look pretty though, make sure you begin drying out your flowers while they've still got a nice colour and aren't turning brown at the tips. You don't get to enjoy your fresh flowers for quite as long if you're planning on drying, but you'll have gorgeous dried flowers to decorate your place with!

*friendly tip: if you're drying a bouquet of flowers, wrap a piece of lace around the elastic that's holding your flowers together!
After your flowers are dried, don't feel like they have stay hanging! Add fun touches like putting them in vintage teacups, old milk glasses, mason jars, glass soda bottles, or in unique vases.
Aren't these lovely?! And yes, I'm a little obsessed with drying flowers, pressing flower petals, etc. They are literally all over our apartment :) As much as I absolutely love (and prefer) having fresh, living flowers, dried flowers are just so romantic and have the added benefit of decorating your space for a very small cost, lasting forever, and keeping you sane through those long winter....and spring months ;) haha!
