ruche holiday cookbook publication!

Ruche's holiday cookbook came out today, and I'm so happy to announce that two of my recipes were chosen to be published in it!  You can find my apple crisp, as well as my apple pie inside on pages 27 and 29 respectively.

The whole book is filled with beautiful photos and yummy looking recipes!  I can't wait to try out a few in the next few weeks.

Happy reading!

outfit post: plaid over a chambray dress

This outfit was definitely inspired by the plaid shirt over wedding dress fad that's been going around pinterest for a while now.  I think it's beautiful and quirky, and perfect for a farm girl getting married.  I chose to layer a classic red and black plaid shirt over a chambray and lace dress.  I loved the contrast of the lacy, feminine dress with the cozy, farm girl plaid!  Knee high socks and boots were added to keep me a bit warmer, and helped make this outfit perfect for  Fall!

The apples surrounding me are the last apples we have in the field, and are a late variety of Pink Lady apples.  They're just about ready to pick...finally!  Although they did provide a lovely backdrop for these photos.

diy: "what does the fox say?" sharpie mug

I won't lie... I am seriously in love with the music video, "What Does the Fox Say." I know, it drives some of you crazy, but really, it is hilarious, random, catchy, and totally witty. I can't stop watching it and I might be a little obsessed, which is why I made a mug out of it!

And if you don't like the song, I'm hoping you'll at least love this mug.
Cause I think its seriously cute and love how mine turned out!
What you need:  sharpies & some plain coffee mugs. I thrifted these for 50 cents each and I seriously love the gold rims! It just adds a little something :)

How to make them:  I free-handed the silhouette of the fox onto my mug, but you could also easily print out a silhouette and cut it out to make a stencil! Just draw on whatever silhouette you want on your mug. Also, note that it is very easy to wipe off sharpie marker from your mug before it goes through your oven, so if you make any mistakes, don't worry! Just give it a little scrub and you cant start again.

After you're done drawing, simply stick them in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
For a more in-depth tutorial, check out my movember sharpie mugs from last year!

Note: You do need to hand-wash these mugs as the marker will still scratch off in the dishwasher!

So any thoughts on what the fox actually does say? ;)

outfit post: a polka dot trench and yellow fall leaves

Now, Jordyn loves dressing up in "subtle" costumes all the time, and constantly looks for inspiration from storybook characters, comics, and tv shows.  She's hilarious like that.

This outfit is one that I (Kelsey) picked out for her, and I called it her subtle superman outfit!  It's super subtle, since the only thing they have in common are colours....but I tried.

Anyways, I'm incredibly jealous of this polka dot trench coat, and seriously wish we were the same size!  I thought it'd be fun to have some crazy pops of colour, and was delighted when it all came together nicely.  I've been trying to pair different colours and patterns together lately, since I tend to just box myself in with how I wear certain items of clothing.  I know Jordyn was surprised that this outfit worked out, and we were both happy it did.

We're kind of wishing that these gorgeous Fall leaves could just stay all Winter....please?

Favorite Movember projects from 2012

It's November first, which means....Movember time!  Soon you'll notice that some of the men in your life are looking a little sketchy, or, in some cases, more manly.

We thought we'd share a few of our Movember/moustache projects from last year!

Clara made these incredible movember sharpie mugs last year.  I am seriously so jealous of her handwriting.  Man, that girl has skills!

Jordyn and I made sugar cookies....twice.
Once with butter cream icing, and once with royal icing.

We made these super easy cupcake toppers.

And finally, we showed you how to throw a moustache party (which was actually Jordyn's 20th birthday party!).

We're already brainstorming more Movember-inspired ideas for the next month, so stay tuned!
