diy : revamped vintage suitcase

Today's diy is pretty dear to me and my husband because we inherited this darling little suitcase from Caleb's grandpa, who just recently passed away. The floral print was another thing that we picked up from grandpa's apartment, so we have a little bit of grandma's touch in there too. (She passed when Caleb was a little boy.) So I dearly hope you enjoy this diy, because it's a pretty special one that's being passed down the family line of the Hildebrands!

& Here's the inspiration for today's post... straight from one of my most favourite blogs =)

Supplies : vintage suitcase, linens, scissors, pencil, glue stick, mod podge & a palette knife.

 -  I N S T R U C T I O N S  -
1. Spread your print out on the suitcase and outline the edges of the suitcase.
2. Cut along the penciled outline, leaving a couple centimeters of room to tuck into the suitcase seam.
2.5 (shown below the instructions but not crucial to this project...) If you're totally happy with your choice in fabric, take a glue stick and go nuts on the face of your suitcase for additional "support"! I also ironed my fabric before tucking everything in and gluing it down.
3. Using your palette knife (or any other flat edge), tuck in the edges.
4. Lastly, using a small paintbrush, paint on mod podge along the seam to seal it.

Here it is before...
And after! I was so ecstatic that this project worked out so well!

Here's the inside of it... I'm not sure if I want to leave it or try and revamp it as well...I kind of like the mustard yellow...Any suggestions?

And here it is with a couple other things we picked up from grandpa's apartment, including a vintage book that has grandma's writing all over it, a crocheted table cover, and a collection of old vintage matchbooks from all over the Prairies!

I loved how this turned out and I think it'll quickly become a staple prop in my photoshoots :)
Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

outfit of the day: {lace and cameras}

{Clara's wearing: shirt/urban outfitters, vest/bluenotes, skirt/old navy, tights/ebay, shoes/borrowed from Kels}

It was so much fun turning the tables on Clara....and putting her in front of the camera instead of behind it!

The earrings that she's wearing are gift from me!  {You can learn how to make your own HERE}

And a fun fact: The vintage brownie camera she's holding is my grandpa's from the 60's!

What a cutie!

This girl has such sweet style...I would gladly raid her closet any day!

diy : cake stands

While I was visiting in BC this past week, Kelsey and I made these adorable little cake stands from some gorgeous thrift store finds. We saw this idea in a cute little vintage store while shopping for a bridal shower gift and couldn't wait to try it out ourselves!

Aren't they just gorgeous? The beauty of this diy is found in its simplicity: it costs next to nothing (we spent less than $5) and it takes less than 5 minutes to put together! Yes, we know... AMAZING.

1) Apply a generous amount of glue to the bottom of your cup (or candlestick).
2) Press the cup firmly onto your plate.
3) Use a q-tip to clean up any excess glue.
4) Hold the cup in the center of your plate until the glue starts to set.
5) Let the glue dry completely before using (minimum of 24 hours).

**We recommend that you hand-wash these only!

Seriously though, for such a simple concept, the end result is stunning! We absolutely fell in LOVE with these little cake stands. They're so delicate, vintage-y, and lovely... perfect for a tea party!
& if you're looking for the perfect gift to give away to those bakers in your lives, they would probably love these adorable little stands to show off their yummy creations!

Hope you enjoyed these as much as we did!

weekly wrap-up : thrifting & wedding planning!

This week, my husband was generous enough to send me off to beautiful British Columbia to visit with the other two lovely ps:heart ladies (Kelsey & Jordyn) and to help out my lovely friend and bride-to-be with her wedding planning!

We had so much fun thrifting & antiquing together and found so many cute treasures =)
as well as some strange things..... (the cat-lover in Kels was a little over excited about
the creepy cats that were all over the stores we hit up.... I was not quite as thrilled.)

Kels also took me to a lovely little gelato place in Fort Langley, it was seriously soooo good!

We helped out the lovely bride-to-be with some adorable little wedding crafts that
involved some of my all time favourite things : burlap, lace, and mason jars =)

...and organized & threw a bridal shower for her!

All in all, it's been a lovely week doing my duties as the maid of honour & its been so wonderful to be hanging out with my other ps:heart girls here in BC! I will confess however, that I dearly miss my man and am looking forward to going home as well =) But keep an eye out for lots more posts from us, we've been having a blast doing posts together!

weekly wrap-up: friends and vintage finds

This week absolutely FLEW by....and I can hardly believe that it's June already!

Last Saturday, my mom took me to the most amazing vintage market that was going to be here for just one day!  It was one of the coolest places I have ever experienced, and I felt so at home among so many lovers of antiques, old furniture, vintage treasures and more!

The place was packed!  And I was very thankful that I'm not claustrophobic at all!

I picked up so many business cards of fellow diy-ers, crafters, and bloggers...and I'm so excited to have discovered new blogs that are powered by people in my area!

The photo above show me discovering an old Mansfield Holiday II 8mm video camera....it was love at first sight!

So many lovely details!

I also picked up an old Kodak Duaflex, which I've been searching for since Christmas!  I've been looking at a lot of "through the viewfinder" (Ttv) photography, and this will work perfectly.  I can't wait to give it a go!

{for more info about Ttv photography, photojojo has a great article HERE}

Thanks goes to my ma for such a wonderful {and successful} day!

I was also able to get together with my lovely friend Jenna to help with some wedding crafts!  She's getting married this July, and I'm so honoured and excited to be able to stand up for her as a bridesmaid!

Finally, my old roomie came over for a visit, and of course we just had to bake something!

It's very strange not to see her every day anymore, and we had A LOT to catch up on!

I hope you've all had a lovely week!

Granny and Grumpa's: An antiquing adventure!

Jordyn briefly mentioned our trip to Granny and Grumpa's in her weekly wrap-up, but since it was such an amazing experience we thought we'd do a whole post on it!

My mom first heard of Granny and Grumpa's through Funky Junk Interiors blog, and thought it might be fun to check out.  We decided to have a girl's day to make up for me being away for Mother's Day, and man did we have fun!

The above photo is just ONE of many barns on the property, each one housing enormous collections of everything you could ever imagine.  To say that it was a bit overwhelming would be an understatement!

Every building held something new to discover....varying from vintage cars, old farm equipment, vintage clothing, rusty tools, and the list goes on and on!

They even had an entire room full of dolls. Let's just say that I didn't spend too long in there....a bit too creepy for me!

I think we all fell in love with this vintage cash register!

And I definitely spent a solid 5-10 minutes standing in front of their camera display, wishing that they were all for sale!

The stuff just went on and on and on....

There didn't appear to by any rhyme or reason to the organization of the place (from what I could tell), and there were some bizarre combos of stuff!  A prime example would be the random pirate statue next to an old John Deere tractor!

The barns further back were a bit of an adventure....not quite as bright or clean as the front buildings, and they featured quite an eclectic mixture of items!

Although I did find an entire shelf of old mixtures!

Jordyn and I also discovered an old arcade game!

And surprise surprise....I found a cat!

Overall, it was quite the experience!  We were all astonished at the sheer amount of stuff these buildings held....and we didn't even get around to seeing all of them!  It was such a fun day, and I'm so glad that my mom and sister love antiquing as much as I do!

We will definitely be visiting again soon!  I hope you've enjoyed going on this mini EPIC tour with me!
